The Serendipity School is a small, outstanding independent specialist provision providing day education, for girls aged 9 to 19 years old with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The identified complex and additional needs of our students may also involve challenging behaviours often associated with attachment disorder; adverse childhood experiences (ACEs); learning difficulties; ADHD and autistic spectrum conditions (ASC).

Our school is a centre of excellence, situated on the outskirts of Southampton, registered for up to 15 students. Our students are from a variety of backgrounds including family homes, foster care or residential children’s homes as Children Looked After (CLA) by the local authority.

All referrals to the school are made via the local authority responsible for the child. All our students either have a current Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) or are undergoing statutory assessment. Our students often arrive with a disrupted or negative educational experience. This can include multiple placements, exclusion and lengthy periods of time out of education.

Our highly experienced and well-qualified staff team provide a safe, nurturing environment for individuals to flourish. The high staff to student ratio offers our students the opportunity to begin to regain confidence in their own ability, by building their self-esteem and resilience through new positive experiences, allowing them to become motivated and independent learners.

We have high expectations for all our students, supported by an ambitious, challenging and differentiated curriculum. Developed in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum, our curriculum aims to respond to our students’ diverse learning needs and overcome potential barriers to learning. We always strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for all our students and every student has a bespoke, personalised timetable to meet their individual needs. Our holistic approach focuses upon the whole child and we celebrate success in all aspects of their lives.

Our vision is encapsulated in our school motto: ‘Every child deserves a chance’.

“Outcome are outstanding. All pupils leave the school with nationally recognised qualifications and important skills for life, which they might not have dreamed to be possible previously.” Ofsted 2016
